If you’re an animal lover looking to gain some major experience and make a real difference in the world, an animal care internship might be the perfect fit for you.
Whether you’re a college student looking for a fulfilling way to spend your summer break or a recent graduate looking to gain some practical experience, an animal care internship is a fantastic opportunity.
In addition to providing valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to make a difference for animals in need, an animal care internship can also be incredibly valuable for your personal and professional development. Along with practical skills and knowledge, internships are also an opportunity to develop important transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
As an intern with GVI, you’ll have the opportunity to assist with animal care and rehabilitation, as well as learn about wildlife biology and medicine. You’ll work closely with a team of experienced professionals and volunteers, gaining valuable hands-on experience.
An internship can also be a great way to explore career options and gain exposure to different aspects of the animal care industry. You may discover a passion for a particular area, such as wildlife conservation or veterinary medicine, or learn more about the day-to-day workings of an animal care organisation.
Furthermore, an animal care internship can also be a valuable addition to your resume and can help you stand out to potential employers. Employers often look for applicants with relevant experience, and an internship can provide proof of your dedication and commitment to your chosen field of study.
Depending on the location of your internship, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a new country and all it has to offer. From hiking and camping in beautiful natural areas, to visiting local cultural attractions, there’s plenty to see and do. And best of all, you’ll be making a real difference in the lives of animals and their habitats. GVI offers animal care internships in Costa Rica, Greece, Thailand and Seychelles.
In Thailand you can head to the mountainous region of Chiang Mai in Thailand and assist with reintegrating Asian elephants into the forest. Or travel south to the coastal region of Phang Nga and join a coastal conservation internship. Here you’ll assist with cleaning turtle tanks, conducting biodiversity surveys, running beach cleanups and more.
Phang Nga is the perfect destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The province is known for its beautiful beaches and stunning islands, like the famous Phi Phi Islands, which are perfect for snorkelling and diving. Phang Nga also has national parks, like the Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, where you can go hiking and camping.
GVI’s Costa Rica base is in the Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve, located in a stunning natural setting, with forests, rivers, and waterfalls. The reserve is home to the Kekoldi people, who have preserved their traditions and way of life. Participants on an animal care internship in Costa Rica have the opportunity to learn about the Kekoldi’s history and culture.
An animal care internship can provide many benefits and can be a valuable step in your personal and professional development. Not only will you gain valuable experience and knowledge, but you’ll also have the opportunity to explore a new place and make a difference in the lives of animals.
